I’ve been reading Robert Rodriguez’s book, “Rebel Without a Crew” lately. Long before he had submitted himself to being a human guinea pig so he could make his first feature film, “El Mariachi,” and long before he had the luxury of owning his own movie studio and post-production facility, he made films using an old VHS camcorder and edited the footage together using two old VCRs.
I think we oftentimes forget how much luxury we have with the modern computer-based tools we use every day and that sometimes, sheer ingenuity and creativity can trump even the most powerful software and computer in the world. The link below is to one of his first movies that he submitted to film festivals and contests back in the early ’90s. It stars his brother and sisters and ended up winning him a bunch of awards.
